The annual awards seek to recognise outstanding efforts made by locals involved in sport from Oamaru to Oamarama and Flagswamp. ‘‘People can nominate anyone that they feel has made a standout contribution to sport this year. This can be a coach, parent who drives a car load of kids, a grounds keeper or behind-thescenes organiser,’’ says Sport Waitaki co-ordinator Kate Holland. The nationwide campaign saw more than 9000 books handed out in towns and cities around the country including Oamaru last week in an effort to encourage reading. The nominees will be formally recognised at an awards evening held at Northstar Motel and Restaurant on October 15. Holland says each nominee will go in the draw to win one of two $500 dollar vouchers.
